FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference’s parity in the 2019-20 season is on display as seven institutions are represented among the 10 Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Preseason All-Conference selections, the league announced Wednesday. * Automatic Selection, 2018-19 All-Conference Team Member Second Team School Pos. Class Hometown Central Arkansas and McNeese each earned two spots on the preseason all-conference second team. The Bears placed center Hayden Koval and point guard Deandre Jones on the squad, and the Cowboys were represented by seniors Roydell Brown and Sha’Markus Kennedy. Lamar guard/forward T.J. Atwood rounded out the second team. Hayden Koval Central Arkansas C Jr. Prosper, Texas Robinson averaged 12.7 points per game during his junior campaign and was one of the top shooters from beyond the arc, ranking sixth in the conference with a .367 mark in league contests. After the Privateers’ leading scorer Ezekiel Charles went down with an injury, Robinson’s per-game scoring jumped to 13.5 over the final 10 games of the regular season. Roydell Brown McNeese G Sr. Lafayette, La. Stephen F. Austin’s Kevon Harris, Houston Baptist’s Ian DuBose and Sam Houston State’s Kai Mitchell are the only three returning all-conference players from 2018-19, earning automatic preseason first-team recognition. Harris, a senior guard/forward, was named to the All-Southland Second Team last season after leading the conference in scoring in league games (20.2 PPG). Joining Harris on last season’s second team was then-sophomore guard Ian DuBose, who averaged 16.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in Southland action. The league’s Newcomer of the Year in 2019, Mitchell ranked fourth in field-goal percentage (.566) and sixth in rebounds per game (7.1) to go with 13.4 points per game against Southland opponents. Kevon Harris* Stephen F. Austin G/F Sr. Ellenwood, Ga. Abilene Christian’s Payten Ricks and New Orleans’ Bryson Robinson were voted on to the first team. An All-Southland Conference Tournament honoree, Ricks averaged 15 points per game on .500 shooting across two games in Katy, helping the Wildcats to their first Southland Conference Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance.
