first_imgThis year marks the 40th anniversary of the Grateful Dead‘s 1977 concert film The Grateful Dead Movie. In celebration, Deadheads will gather in cinemas nationwide for a fan meet up on April 20th for a very special Fathom Events screening.Co-directed by Jerry Garcia and Leon Gast, The Grateful Dead Movie concert film features live performances from the October 1974 5-night run at San Francisco’s iconic Winterland held during the band’s so-called “retirement” prior to taking a two-year sabbatical.Before the show, audiences will get exclusive access to a special mini-documentary featuring fans reminiscing about the most famous Grateful Dead show of all time, which took place 40 years ago, on May 8, 1977, at Barton Hall at Cornell University. The Cornell showing comes in anticipation of the upcoming 11-disc box set Get Shown the Light – due to come out May 5, 2017.Additionally, the Meet-Up event will also screen exclusive clips from the Long Strange Trip documentary, which was debuted at Sundance and is set to hit Amazon TBD in May, 2017.“Grateful Dead fans across the country share a special connection with each other and with their favorite band,” Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said in a statement. “Gathering these dedicated fans together to experience exciting content from their favorite artists is at the core of what we do, and this event is a great example of that.”For information on tickets for the Grateful Dead Movie 40th Anniversary celebration, head to the Fathom Events website.
