These last couple weeks are preparation for sectionals. We have to treat every team like we are playing for a championship. We improved throughout the match, but as we face some bigger schools and strong competition, we cannot start so flat.Varsity is now 23-6 on the season.Next up: ECVB travels to Connersville on Thursday for another EIAC match-up starting at 5.Courtesy of Trojans Coach Cassie Laker.last_img read more

New Delhi: South Africa, who recently clinched the ODI series 2-1, continued to pile the misery on Australia as they secured a 21-run win in the one-off Twenty20 International played at the Carrara Oval in Queensland on Saturday in a match reduced to 10 overs per-side after rain delayed the start of the match. The new venue, situated on the Gold Coast of Australia, was hosting its first ever international game but there was a major threat as rain delayed the start by more than two hours. However, once the rain abated, the match started quickly and South Africa chose to bat.Read More | England beat Sri Lanka in Pallekele Test, win series after 17 yearsThe Proteas made a quick start, with Quinton de Kock launching Jason Behrendorff over deep square leg to get off the mark with a six. Reeza Hendricks smashed a four off the fifth ball past cover as Australia leaked 15 runs. De Kock launched Billy Stanlake over long off for his second six but the third over, the final one in the powerplay, proved extremely costly for Australia as Hendricks blasted a four and a six off Nathan Coulter-Nile. Although the bowler had his revenge, South Africa had smashed 42 runs in the powerplay.Read More | Mandhana 83 helps India thrash Australia in ICC Women’s World T20Skipper Faf du Plessis (27) and Heinrich Klassen (12) found the boundaries on a regular basis. However, Glenn Maxwell lit up the evening with a stunning catch to send back du Plessis. The Proteas skipper blasted a short ball from Stanlake flat to deep midwicket. Maxwell, positioned on the boundary, leapt up and caught the ball with both hands. Realising that he might go over the ropes, he threw the ball mid-air as he tumbled to the other side of the boundary. He recovered and took the catch on the second attempt. The effort even earned the appreciation of former AB de Villiers, who termed it the ‘best catch he had ever seen.’Despite losing quick wickets towards the end, South Africa ended on 108/6.In response, Australia also started off brilliantly with Chris Lynn hammering Kagiso Rabada for two boundaries. However, Lungi Ngidi got Aaron Finch (7) but the third over bowled by Chris Morris totally robbed Australia of momentum. Morris removed D’Arcy Short for a golden duck but the wicket of Lynn for 14 gave the Proteas the advantage. With Marcus Stoinis (5), Ben McDermott (4) and Alex Carey (8) departing cheaply, the onus was on Maxwell. The right-hander responded by smashing Andile Phehlukwayo over deep midwicket for a six and got two further boundaries off Rabada. However, with 31 needed off the last over, Maxwell hit a six off Ngidi but could not do much as Australia suffered a 21-run loss, their fourth consecutive loss in the format after being whitewashed 3-0 by Pakistan earlier in the UAE. last_img read more

first_imgIt is not often I devote the headlines to the men! Best of luck is extended to the Ulster Cup team and Team Captain Charlie Coughlan, who play the final in Letterkenny Golf Club this Sunday 16th September at 1pm. One of the biggest competitions to come to Letterkenny Golf Club in recent years, everyone is urged to please come and support the team as they try to regain the title they last won in 2010.The golfing season and nights are fast drawing in and some of our fair weather ladies are already polishing and storing their clubs for yet another year. Granted, there was not a lot of fair weather around this summer, but we made the most of it! Our next event on the diary, is of course Lady Captain Angela Kilgallens outing to Redcastle for golf, dinner, B & B on the 22nd Sept. Who knows, perhaps some of the Donegal team might join us for some pre match tips from the ladies. The lady beginners took to the course for a scramble with experienced golfers to finish off their coaching season. The winning team was Marian O’Sullivan and Mary Fowley along with Anne McAleer and Marjorie Morrison, 2nd was Anne Cannon, Anne Condon, Marie Gallen and Barbara McFeely and 3rd was Karen Crawford, Bridget McClafferty, Eileen Devine and Helen Bonnar. Well done to Anne Condon who worked so closely with new lady beginners this year, making their golfing experience an enjoyable introduction to the sport.  The winner of the September Pendant was Celine Bradley 75nett. Runner-up Marian OSullivan 75 nett B.O.T. 3rd Marian Keating 75nett B.O.T. It was also the final competition to count Golfer of the Year points, which at the start of the day was just 2 points between Celine Bradley and Marian O’Sullivan in favour of Marian. Thoughts of a juicy punnet at the 10th inspired the young Sligo lass, although she feared ‘she had blown it’ at the 16 the, but kept plugging away until the last ball was in the last hole to emerge the victor this year again, by one point. The 13 hole competition on Thursday was played in close to gale force weather, or so it felt. Cathy Marren apparently never noticed it and won with 28 points. Runner up Rena O’Herlihy 27pts and 3rd Monica McDonagh 26pts.On Sat 15th Lady Captain Angela leads the team to play the Mary McDaid Memorial Cup in Portsalon Golf Club. Best wishes to everyone on what is always a most enjoyable day out. Lady Captain Angela, Mr Captain Niall and Mr President Padraic mentioned from time to thousand times, they qualified to play in the K Club last weekend! Representing the club very well, they narrowly missed out on a placing. No doubt, they may have mentioned once or twice the club is celebrating its centenary year in 2013!Next Tuesday there will be a club competition. Dare I say it, the Christmas Turkey competitions will soon be starting and the return of the very popular running hamper competition which will be 18 holes on weekends only. The competition secretary will be working furiously as always, to ensure all information is displayed on the notice board in advance.Photo: Winners in the End Of Season competition for Lady Beginners at Letterkenny Golf Club.
