Facebook https://twitter.com/buildourroadLIMERICK Public Participation Network (PPN) welcomes the announcement by the Transport Minister that the Coonagh-Knockalisheen road will proceed without delay.Limerick Public Participation Network, as part of its remit to support the input of community organisations into the making of local and national government policy, facilitated a number of meetings of its members regarding recent public debate on the Coonagh-Knockalisheen Road.Sign up for the weekly Limerick Post newsletter Sign Up The Ballynanty District Electoral Division comprising Moyross, Ballynanty, Kileely and Thomondgate has some of the highest deprivation scores in the country. This road link is a key part of the Regeneration plan to improve social, physical and economic outcomes for this community. Moyross is also the largest cul de sac in the state with communities isolated from full access to education, health and job opportunities. While this road is not a solution to all inequalities the community faces, it will play a very important part in opening up the area and breaking down barriers for the community. The Regeneration plan that included this road project was developed with the voice of the community at its core. It was passed by Limerick City and County Council. It was also approved within the current Programme for Government which was signed by Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party. To see that both government policy and the voices of the community are now being heeded is a very welcome development. While Limerick PPN shares a dedication to combating climate breakdown and the urgent need to reduce transport emissions, it recognises that this must not be at the expense of our most disadvantaged communities. Social justice and a just transition are at the core of any effective climate campaign or action. This demands that the burdens of fixing our environment are not piled on vulnerable or disadvantaged communities. The community of Moyross are a wonderful, vibrant, and important part of Limerick. Their hopes, concerns and outcomes deserve respect and engagement from all government leaders. The membership of the Limerick PPN welcomes today’s announcement and acknowledges the role of the Transport Minister Eamon Ryan in this process. Position players: Will Smith, David Freese, Corey Seager, Justin Turner, Joc Pederson, Cody Bellinger, A.J. Pollock, Russell Martin, Chris Taylor, Kiké Hernandez– Crazy as this sounds, I worry that Ryu is one bad start away from not being a “lock.” More than that, I worry the Ryu-Smith battery is questionable enough to make Martin his personal catcher in October. There’s too much in that sentence to unpack in this space, but I wouldn’t write it without cause. FanGraphs broke down his recent struggles.– I don’t know where Urías, Stripling and Maeda fit best. They’ll get in because they are postseason veterans who are flexible enough to make the best of whatever role they’re handed. They’ll probably wind up in middle-relief, but I can see any of them starting or opening or even closing.– Quibble with my choices of position players if you must, but at least look at their second-half batting stats first. In if they’re healthy (3): Rich Hill, Max Muncy, Alex Verdugo Editor’s note: This is the Sept. 5 edition of the Inside the Dodgers newsletter. To receive the newsletter in your inbox, sign up here.I’ve been holding off on writing this newsletter until Gavin Lux’s September fate was sealed. Now that he’s here, this is a good time to take a deep look at what a 25-man postseason roster might look like for the Dodgers. You figure they’ll take 12 pitchers and 13 position players. While the position-player jobs are more clearly delineated than they were this time last year, the pitching staff is a jumble of youth and experience and swingmen. Wish me luck.Locks (18)Pitchers: Walker Buehler, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Clayton Kershaw, Ross Stripling, Kenta Maeda, Julio Urías, Pedro Baez, Joe Kelly Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error – I’m not too worried about Hill. He’s probably the Game 4 starter if he is healthy, and maybe the Game 3 starter if Ryu doesn’t recover from his mini-slump. He can also relieve in a pinch.– I’m not too worried about Muncy either. A strong September finish once he returns from his wrist injury would help his cause to be in the everyday lineup. A fractured wrist can seriously hamper a man’s swing.– Verdugo is the one I’m worried about. Oblique injuries are always tricky. Even if Verdugo is healthy come Oct. 1, what happens to his roster spot if Gavin Lux and Matt Beaty continue to hit in September? Both are comparable hitters to Verdugo (they all bat left-handed, wielding picturesque line-drive strokes) and I’m not certain how all three fit on a 25-man roster. They can’t all make it (5): Kenley Jansen, Caleb Ferguson, Adam Kolarek, Dylan Floro, Casey Sadler– There’s an inflection point coming for Jansen at which he either 1, pitches like a reliable closer again; 2, doesn’t look like the team’s best ninth-inning option but is deemed trustworthy in a lesser role; 3, can’t regain his mechanics and doesn’t make the roster. This could go down to the wire.– I’m tempted to think of Ferguson/Kolarek and Floro/Sadler as dyads. Pick one of the two. If versatility is the determining factor, Kolarek has enjoyed more success against righties than Ferguson. Floro’s pitched a tad better against lefties than Sadler, but it’s close. The kids (4): Gavin Lux, Matt Beaty, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May– It’s too soon to pass judgment on Lux, beyond the fact that he hasn’t shrunk from any big moments yet. ESPN.com wrote about how Lux “knocked down the door” to earn his audition. Remember, he’s playing with house money now.– It seems risky to leave a guy slashing .288/.338/.491 in half a season’s worth of games off your October roster. Yet all of Beaty’s damage has come against righties, and unfortunately for him, I can’t think of a team that has as many left-handers (Bellinger, Seager, Pederson, maybe Verdugo and Lux) capable of doing what he does in a batter’s box. That makes him slightly less than a lock for me.– Between May’s four-seamer and Gonsolin’s two-seamer, I imagine the two right-handers would be devastating piggybacking off each other in the bullpen. You figure the Dodgers would commit to trying that in September to see if it would work in October. They haven’t done that, however, and I’m not sure how this experiment plays out. Thanks for playing (5): Yimi Garcia, Jedd Gyorko, Kristopher Negron, Josh Sborz, Austin Barnes– There’s a compelling case for up to 30 different players to make this team’s 25-man roster. These five guys aren’t among the 30. Barnes has the best chance to sneak in; an injury to Smith or Martin gets him a roster spot. Negron has been a pleasant surprise. His best contribution was pushing Hernandez and Taylor to perform to their potential at the plate in the second half. Garcia isn’t playoff material in a good year, but his career as a Dodger is probably longer and better than you realize. I hear Gyorko shoots a mean 3-pointer. And why is it that when I see the name “Josh Sborz” I think “Jacob Rhame”?-J.P.Editor’s note: Thanks for reading the Inside the Dodgers newsletter. BY NEIL BARRETT: Some of you may be reading these articles relating to child & teen health and think “doesn’t that apply to all of us”?Well yes, in a way it does, however the importance of all this information is even more relevant to children & teens.Recent evidence relating to sustainable weight loss implies that once you reach a certain level of obesity, your body will always strive to reach that level again. Let’s put that into context. Once you reach certain body fat percentage that is considered to be outside that of a healthy normal range, willpower, motivation, planning & hard work may not be enough, your body could be sabotaging your efforts!Take this for example, if we were to take mono zygotic twin children (genetically identical) and give twin A a healthy diet & rigorous training regime for one year and we give twin B a sedentary lifestyle with poor eating habits for one year it is quite obvious that twin B will end up with a less than desirable body composition (excess body fat) and compromised health. If we then apply the healthier lifestyle to twin B in an attempt to reverse the damage we may or may not see the desired effect.Twin B will always have to work harder and eat healthier than twin A and that still might not be enough. During early development we form cells called adipose tissue, these are the cells that house fat; think of them like honeycomb & fat is the honey we fill them with.Develop too much of these (through sedentary behaviour and poor eating habits) we increase our potential of becoming obese. We are able to burn off the excess fat tissue housed in the adipose tissue, however, we are unable to get rid of adipose tissue once we develop it.This tissue secretes hormones that not only increase our suceptability to unhealthy foods but also interferes with normal fat storage and metabolism. You have these cells & tissue for life! So no matter what you try and do in adulthood, the implications of an unhealthy lifestyle in early stage development will hinder you efforts. So what to do for your teens and children now? Use the information, tables (Fig.1.) and tools enclosed to calculate what your child or teen needs to consume each day and plan around it.These are the difficult decisions that will make you less than popular with your children in the short term, but parenthood is not a popularity contest, it is a duty of care!Garden vegetables, especially greens, lean meats, fish & eggs, nuts & seeds, some fruit, a little starch, and no sugar.Protein should be lean and varied and account for about 30% (between.7g/kg body weight and 1.9g/kg of bodyweight depending on activity level) of your total calorie intake. Carbohydrates should be predominantly low-glycaemic – follow the link – and account for about 40% of your total calorie intake.Fat should be predominantly monounsaturated and account for about 30% of your total caloric load.Glycaemic Index: (http://www.health.harvard.edu/healthy-eating/glycemic_index_and_glycemic_load_for_100_foods)Fat index: http://www.helpguide.org/articles/healthy-eating/choosing-healthy-fats.htmYou must understand what a healthy eating plan is before your child can.Eliminate all the guess work, follow the simple instructions and help your family become healthy. It is easy, but time-consuming. Get a solid foundation in place and monitor the results. OAKLAND — Following a pair of gut-wrenching games with the New York Yankees over the weekend, the A’s bullpen needed a performance — and an end result — like the one it put forth Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels. After Blake Treinen gave up a game-tying solo home run to Justin Upton in the sixth inning, relievers Ryan Buchter, Yusmeiro Petit, Joakim Soria and Liam Hendriks were nearly perfect in 3 2/3 innings of work, helping the A’s earn a 7-5 win over the Angels to start off a weeklong …

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday dared the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to convert itself into a political party and fight elections, instead of controlling its political front from behind the curtain and acting like an “extra-constitutional authority”. He said the RSS had no role in the Independence movement and framing of the Constitution.Mr. Gehlot made the remarks on the second day of a special session of the State Assembly convened here to mark 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. The two-day session turned into a political slugfest between the ruling Congress and the Opposition BJP, with both the parties accusing each other of undermining constitutional values.Replying to the debate as the Leader of the House, Mr. Gehlot said the RSS was enjoying power without any responsibility, as no Minister or Chief Minister was appointed without its consent. “The RSS and the BJP have no faith in the Constitution. They only pay lip service to constitutional norms because they want to win elections in democracy,” he said.‘BJP exposed’Mr. Gehlot took a dig at the recent political developments in Maharashtra, while affirming that the BJP had been exposed by the way President’s Rule was revoked early in the morning and the Chief Minister and Deputy CM were sworn in. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi lost no time in congratulating them. Does it prove the dictum Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai?” he asked.Amid interruptions by the BJP MLAs, Mr. Gehlot targeted Mr. Modi for his working style and decisions like demonetisation and the GST implementation. The Chief Minister said BJP’s dream of making a Congress-free India would never succeed, as parliamentary democracy had taken firm roots in the country only because of the consistent efforts and prolonged struggle of the Congress. The House witnessed noisy scenes when Leader of the Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria made a reference to the Ram temple and accused the Congress of not making efforts to resolve the long-pending Ayodhya dispute.
