first_img Love Letters Alan Alda and Candice Bergen begin their limited run in the Broadway revival of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters on November 9, taking over from Brian Dennehy and Carol Burnett. Directed by Gregory Mosher, the pair will appear at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre through December 5. They will be followed by casts of stars in strictly limited engagements that include Anjelica Huston, Stacy Keach, Diana Rigg and Martin Sheen. Love Letters is a funny and emotional portrait about the powerful connection of love. Two friends, rebellious Melissa Gardner and straight-arrow Andrew Makepeace Ladd III have exchanged notes, cards and letters with each other for over 50 years. From second grade, through summer vacations, to college, and well into adulthood, they have spent a lifetime discussing their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, and victories and defeats. But long after the letters are done, the real question remains: Have they made the right choices or is the love of their life only a letter away? The production has also previously starred Mia Farrow. Keach and Rigg will play December 6 through January 9, 2015. Huston and Sheen will then play January 10 through February 15. first_img…..Top XX aiming to stop perfect Army marchBy Ras WadadaHOME side, Top XX is aiming to stop the unbeaten run of the Guyana Defence Force, early leaders in the GFF-Stag Elite League season two, when the two sides clash in the feature game of this evening’s double-header slated for the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground. After losing both opening matches, the ‘Pride of Linden’ is determined to register its first point, but against the League’s only perfect side, the challenge presented is huge. The home side will be looking to the home turf and support advantages to lift them from the bottom position they have occupied after two rounds of matches. The goal-thirsty Army, who have been emphatic in their wins, having scored 11 goals and conceded only one, would be the stiffest opposition for the Lindeners.Sherwyn Caesar and Delroy Fraser have accounted for seven of the team’s tally and must be closely marked if Top XX hope to prevail, but the fit and ready-looking Army outfit have other plans to notch up their third consecutive victory.Linden fans are hoping that the soldiers can bring out the best in the Top XX side so that the team can open their points account. The first game of the Stag Elite League to be played in the mining town will feature a struggling Buxton United against leaders Fruta Conquerors at 16:00hrs. Both sides played last Friday so recovery is going to be pivotal for this game.Another win for Conquerors today will push them to 10 points and sustain their lead at the top, with the most crucial game to end round one against the GDF set for the Buxton ground on December 12. The Army, with a game in hand, also has Monedderlust to play as they eye the coveted Championship. The GFF will be hoping that the Elite football-starved Community in Linden would come out in their numbers to the MSC ground this evening as fans have been very few so far at the other venues in this ‘season two,’ diluted by the withdrawal of four teams, including the top two from the inaugural season.last_img read more
