San Diego State University is expected to begin negotiations some time in 2019 to purchase the land from the city of San Diego. Until then, the plan for a 35,000-seat football stadium, an SDSU campus extension, commercial and residential space and a public river park remains only conceptual.San Diego City Council members Barbara Bry and Scott Sherman and SDSU Assistant Vice President of Divisional Communications & Strategy Gina Jacobs were expected to participate in the discussion.Sherman represents City Council District 7, where the aging stadium currently sits, and endorsed SDSU West’s election competitor, the SoccerCity plan. Bry, meanwhile, endorsed SDSU West in January, well before most of her colleagues on the council.
