The lifeless body of a 63-year-old pensioner was on Thursday morning discovered hanging in a mandir atDead: Jamoona SomaiAlness, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).The dead man has been identified as Jamoona Somai of Alness Village.An autopsy conducted on the body by Dr Marcalas Martinez gave the cause of death as a result of traumatic rupture of the hyoid bone resulting in strangulation.Reports are that Somai left his home situated two houses away from the mandir in the wee hours of the morning. According to the dead man’s wife, Drophati Bharrat, when she got out of bed and went downstairs, she discovered that a piece of rope which ties a hammock was missing.She said she immediately told her 18-year-old granddaughter to go to the mandir to see what was going on. “Every morning he would go to the mandir and sweep out and then lock the gate and come back home; is years he doing that.”When the granddaughter looked through a window of the building, the discovery was made and an alert was raised. According to Bharrat, her husband suffered two heart attacks and a stroke in the past two years and ever since, he has been experiencing severe pains.The former cane harvester leaves to mourn a wife, four children and a granddaughter who grew up with him.According to his wife, Somia was a willing person who always helped his family.
